Preamble

EMSUA is an organization with a long and grand history as an excellent umpire branch and, as a result, we are recognized across the country. We will continue to maintain that excellence.

These guidelines are simply a guide for the assigners and the individual members. The assigners are still expected to employ judgment and discretion in their assignments.

Qualifications To Be Assigned Tournaments

1. Dress and Deportment

We are always very visible and must always show our best.

Those officials that have acquired the proper umpire equipment, take pride in their dress and demonstrate good personal conduct will be placed higher on the list of candidates for a tournament.

It is understood that many new members have not been able to acquire the proper umpire equipment. We, as an organization, must try to assist members in obtaining equipment where and when the need arises.

2. Category of Softball

Umpires will be selected for tournaments based upon their previous experiences at the level of softball being played at the tournament.

Persons going to an "Evaluator" and/or "Post-Provincial" tournament will be given every opportunity to work the highest calibre of softball.

3. Positive Evaluation

Umpires that have had a positive evaluation will be considered before those umpires that have not been evaluated. Either local or provincial evaluation within two years is acceptable.

4. Availability

Each Zone Director will be responsible for submitting names of umpires with their availabilities to the assigner, [SPECIFIC TIMES YOU ARE AVAILABLE], for the upcoming tournament.

The Zone Director will contact each umpire that had indicated his/her availability, two days prior to the start of the tournament.

5. Umpire History

Under certain circumstances, an umpire will only be considered after the other available umpires have been assigned.

Some examples are:
Umpire accepts an assignment/tournament, then at the last minute cancels.
Umpire shows up to tournaments late.
Umpire only available for the higher quality softball.

6. Umpire Conduct

All umpires must display appropriate behaviour (both off and on the diamond), and must follow the umpire "Code of Ethics."
